Normal Temperature 99-101°F

Normal Heart Rate 36-44 bpm

Normal Respiration 16-24 bpm

Here are some important things to know about your horse or pony that will aid in the discussion with your veterinarian in the event of sickness or injury.


  • Know your horses normal temperature.

  • Take your horses temperature with a rectal thermometer when
    you suspect something is wrong.

  • Evaluate your horses normal water consumption.

  • Evaluate your horses normal manure/urine output.

 

Emergency Kit needs:

 

  • Vet Wrap
  • Gauze, Cotton
  • Betadine Scrub
  • Veterinarian Advised Meds & Ointments

 

 

Routine Care


All horses and ponies should have routine care for the following:

  • Dental care
  • Hoof care
  • Preventative care (i.e. vaccinations, worming, etc.)
  • Proper diet

    The frequency of care and specific need is different for each horse
    depending on breed type, age and activity level. Your veterinarian can help you determine what protocol is best for your horse(s).
